Getting used to the course(somewhat)/Third week

I realized I didn't do well on the second quiz so I decided to be well-prepared for the third one. As it turns out, the materials that are covered in the third tutorial came naturally to me. I think this is mainly because I could relate to the type of questions that were on the tutorial worksheet. I thought of the questions like trig identities since both of them involves proving two sides to be equal, so technically you are given the answer and are asked to show the steps to get the answer.

I found that a really good way to do the proving question is to first get both statements into similar form (in terms of conjunction/disjunction/implication). The goal is to get everything into either conjunction with disjunction or only implications. Then the problem becomes super easy, you either distribute or re-arrange or just multiply things out.

I think I'm doing alright in this course, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the work!

Second and Third-ish week.

Wow this course really creeps on you quickly. I found myself falling behind a couple of times in class, but by the end of the class I usually have a through understanding of the topic. I often found myself trying to piece the information together while other are asking questions, which really helped a lot!

The tutorial was really bad. I spaced out a couple of times, one time while the TA was explaining how to do a specific question. There were a lot of relatively new concepts for me to take in and I think I messed up the quiz because I had a lot of stuff going on in my head and I just mixed the materials all together.

It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do, I'm planning on meeting up with a friend of mine that took 165 last term and aced the course. I hope I'm able to stay on top of my work!

A New Start

CSC165 seems like an interesting course, it is very mind-stimulating for me since during the lecture I had to think really hard in order to understand the concepts. There are no shortcuts or memorization either, it's all about recognizing and applying concepts, I guess perhaps someone might be able to find general trend once they get used to this course.

The most difficult part about today's lecture is probably recognizing symbols and understanding terminology, at first I didn't know what a complement of a set was, but after someone explained it to me everything made perfect sense. Also, I think it is vital for students to understand the meanings of mathematical notation that were used on the board.
